Watch out for black cats, ladders, and most importantly do not break a mirror. Happy Friday the 13th! Instead of going out and worrying about what might happen on this superstition and spooky day, I will be staying home and enjoying a glass of this Hot Buttered Rum. It’s been awhile since I found a cocktail that I like served hot. I mean could it be more perfect for the upcoming cold seasons? If you’re a spiced rum kind of person, then this old fashioned adult beverage is going to be a new favorite for you.
It’s such a unique combination of ingredients for a cocktail, we didn’t really know what to expect. Sammy and I decided on this recipe flipping through “Joy of Cooking,” which we have taken on the challenge of cooking through and sharing each recipe on our blog with you. For more information, check out our post for Pigs in Potatoes. Alright, now back to the cocktail. First off, if you’re following along with us, find this recipe on page 61. And if you don’t have a copy yet and want one, find it on Amazon HERE.
The most interesting part of this recipe was creating the flavored butter. As you see pictured, you create a batter like texture with softened butter, fresh ground nutmeg, cinnamon, and powdered sugar. You add about 2 TBS of that to the bottom of your tumbler, and pour 1 shot (or 2 if your brave) and boiling water on top of the butter mixture. Quickly you will see the butter melt and combine with the liquids for a perfect glass of Hot Buttered Rum.
Pretty simple and easy, making it for your friends and family this holiday season will be a breeze. Don’t forget to throw in a cinnamon stick in there for stirring. It adds a bit of flair and flavor.
Next week on the blog we’ve got some great stuff coming your way. Monday fish is on the menu, Tuesday we have a dessert themed recipe round up (it’s going to be epic!), and Wednesday we have a delicious pork recipe that you don’t want to miss. Now that’s just Monday-Wednesday, stay tuned for what the rest of the week has to offer. Hope everyone has a great weekend, and happy drinking!
