Happy hump day everyone! Good news, you’ve made it halfway through the week! And we have something super tasty in store for you today. Are you an almond milk fan? Because there is nothing better than fresh Homemade Almond Milk. Especially if you’re comparing it to store bought, which is naturally what I did. I gotta be completely honest when I say i’ve never been an almond milk fan. At least until I tried this homemade version. Yes, I realize that sounds like a bad sales pitch, but it’s the truth.
Are you ready for some more honesty? This is a tedious process. Didn’t get that memo seeing as this was the first time Sammy and I made this recipe, but now we know.
Once you’ve got your almonds blanched, they will need to be run through a food processor. You will end up with a nutty paste for lack of a better explanation, and squeeze that through a cheesecloth or a nut milk bag reserving the liquid. That liquid is your nut milk, and the harder you squeeze the more you’ll get. Think of it as exercise.
And on a different note, we mentioned in Monday’s blog post that we had my brother’s kids over after a day of shooting this and the Egg in a Bacon Ring blog post. Not only did we get the “kid approval” on the bacon cups, (which was not a surprise to me) but they LOVED the almond milk too. Now that was a real shock to me. Here we have this super healthy, and dairy free drink that is kid friendly. Is this real life? Yes it is, and it’s because this stuff is that good. Another winner recipe from the cookbook “Joy of Cooking,” and if you’ve been following along, you can find the recipe starting on page 534. Not sure what we’re talking about? Head over to our Pigs in Potatoes blog post for all the details.
That’s it for our post today, and we hope you love this recipe as much as we do. But you won’t know until you try! Share with us your experience if you make this recipe, better yet, share a photo and tag us on social media. We’d love to hear from you, and feedback is always welcome. On Friday we have a delicious creamy soup recipe that is too delicious not to check out. We hope to have you back then!
